So I’m on this new frugality kick. I think. I’m not quite sure frugality gurus would consider a $500-per-month grocery budget frugal, but for me and the other 3 humans and 2 cats who, by the way, all eat regularly, it’s a start.
My mom was frugal. She could pinch a penny till it squealed, especially in regard to food, but I’m handicapped. I don’t cook. Got too much other stuff to do. (Well, to be quite honest, I’ve got too much other stuff I would rather do.) Also, I lived on the Atkins diet for 3 years before having a family and Atkins is frugal by default if you do it right.
I’m not really on Atkins right now nor have I been since I got married, but that’s a story for another post (and I will post about that, I assure you).
So anyway, today I went shopping for stuff we would normally eat, only I’m in stockpiling mode now a la The Grocery Game. I checked the food ads against my coupons (both habits completely new to me) and I saved $139.72 off regular prices (of stuff I would’ve bought anyway).
I think that’s good. Is that good?

YOu saved nearly $140 on an average $500 bill? About 25%? Yes that’s AWESOME! Way to go!!!

Well, my budget was $250 because I’m in stockpiling status. I went over budget by about $20 (so I spent $270). What I bought would normally have cost $390. So I guess that’s 36%.
Really, I’m a grocery dunce. I keep reading about people who get their $476.23 grocery bill cut to 20 cents, so really I’m not quite sure what “good” is.
Personally, I think eating and sleeping are big wastes of time, so spending money on either kinda chaps my hide.
